17th and 18th Century Astronomy and Isaac Newton

The interest in astronomy and physics that followed the work of Galileo burst into full flower in the work of Isaac Newton (1642-177). Newton's work was so great that he has become an almost legendary figure. The stories told about him - such as he was led to his theory of gravitation an apple fall in his garden- are not only untrue but they obscure Newton's great reasoning powers. At Cambridge
